Every Christmas, the royal couple prepared tables of presents for one another, their children and the Queen’s mother, the Duchess of Kent. The centrepiece of each table was a Christmas tree decorated with candles. Victoria and Albert employed James Roberts extensively to paint domestic scenes, many of which were incorporated into their watercolour albums.
