FELIKS TOPOLSKI (1907-89)

A rose and a bee

c.1980

RCIN 453562

The Polish-born painter and draughtsman Feliks Topolski trained at the Academy of Art in Warsaw. He was sent to London in 1935 by a Polish newspaper to record King George V’s Silver Jubilee celebrations. Topolski then settled in Britain, where he worked as the Official Artist to the Polish Forces in England during the war. The confidence and energy of this drawing, and its cartoon-like appearance, are typical of Topolski's style.
