SIR ALBERT EDWARD RICHARDSON (1880-1964)
Glamis Castle
dated 1950RCIN 453477
The architect, writer and lecturer Sir Albert Richardson made this watercolour of Glamis in September 1950, writing in his diary of how he ‘spent the whole day sketching and colouring in the wet’. He presented the picture to Queen Elizabeth, and recorded that: ‘The Queen discussed the rosy glow which invariably came over the Castle at 6 o’clock in the evening. I replied and said that although it rained all day while I made the drawing, the rosy colour came as well as the shadows. Her Majesty said she was thrilled to have the drawing.'
