JAN ANTHONIE LANGENDIJK (1780-1818)
The Battle of Waterloo
drawn 1815RCIN 915222
Although this watercolour is inscribed ‘ad viv.’ (‘from life’), Langendijk is unlikely to have witnessed the events he depicts. The building at the centre may be meant to represent La Haye Sainte. British troops, approaching from the right, are repelling French forces, in the grass at lower left.
