Banqueting House's ceiling is a masterpiece and the only surviving in-situ ceiling painting by Sir Peter Paul Rubens. It was commissioned by Charles I in memory of his father, James I. It would be one of the final sights that Charles I saw, as he was executed at Banqueting House in 1649.
