Princess Victoria recorded the gift of this album in her Journal as ‘a beautiful album with a painting on it’ (24 May 1833). None of the pictures is by Lady Charlotte herself, who presumably gave the album to the Princess empty, to be filled by her as desired. Nearly half of the pictures later inserted in the album were by Princess Feodora of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Queen Victoria’s half-sister; other notable contributors were Sir George Hayter (1792–1871) and Lady Waterford (1819–91).
