Frames in the Royal Collection

A guide to the history of frames in the Royal Collection

BRITISH SCHOOL, EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Hampton Court Style

RCIN 7405664

This carved oak frame was made to match in with the wooden panelling at Hampton Court Palace; the key features are the broad knull with scrolling foliage over rope. It was known as a cushion frame because of the large round knull that is the main focus of the frame.

This example is a twentieth-century reproduction of the style.
