Eucalyptus wood has long been used in Aboriginal communities for making shields, dishes and canoes as well as musical instruments. Didgeridoos (natural wooden trumpets or drone pipes) are formed from hollowed branches of the tree. Other parts of the tree – such as the leaves and gum – have played a central role in indigenous Australian medicine.
