Slate plaque with an Aboriginal hunting scene
RCIN 92172
This slate plaque, in the stylised shape of Australia, depicts a hunting scene. It was presented by Albert Barunga (c.1910–1977) and his wife for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977. Barunga was a Presbyterian minister and community leader from Western Australia. In the late 1960s he became a firm supporter of indigenous rights throughout Australia, and campaigned for the preservation of sacred sites in the country. He was also a keen advocate of indigenous arts and crafts and supported organisations which sought to protect and encourage traditional art forms in Western Australia.
