Grand Vestibule: The British Monarchy and the World

The Grand Vestibule at Windsor Castle reflects interaction between the monarchy and the wider world

The Queen and Africa

The Queen first visited Africa in 1947, when she toured South Africa with her parents and younger sister. On her 21st birthday, which she celebrated in Cape Town, she made a speech dedicating her life to the service of the Commonwealth. Since that date, The Queen has travelled extensively across the continent and hosted numerous State and official visits by African leaders to the United Kingdom.
