Prince Albert: his life and legacy

A major new digitisation project will explore Prince Albert's enduring legacy and influence

ATTRIBUTED TO GIUSEPPE NICCOLÒ VICENTINO (FL. C.1530–50)

The miraculous draught of fishes

published 1609

RCIN 853020

All three works reproduce a drawing (also at Windsor) attributed to Raphael for one of the Sistine Chapel tapestry cartoons. The chiaroscuro woodcut now attributed to Niccolò Vicentino was crudely reprinted by Andrea Andreani in 1609, with more detail added to the sky. The photograph of the drawing was commissioned by Prince Albert in the 1850s, as he was beginning to explore the documentary potential of that new technology.
