Prince Albert and Queen Victoria purchased and commissioned many photographs by Roger Fenton throughout the 1850s and 1860. Fenton was a highly skilled and talented photographer, equally capable of producing powerful portraits and landscape scenes. This photograph depicts a young woman standing beside a pillar at Tintern Abbey, Wales. The photograph displays Fenton's skill at composition.
