c.1866

Albumen print | 10.0 x 7.6 cm (image) | RCIN 2950732

The 13th-century Dunstaffnage Castle is situated to the north of Oban. It presents a picturesque view from across the bay, where Wilson took this photograph. During the 15th century the Earls of Argyll owned the castle, and they hosted James IV of Scotland. In 1746, Flora MacDonald was imprisoned there for her part in helping Bonnie Prince Charlie escape to the Continent after the Battle of Culloden.
