Shortly after arriving in Britain, Linda enrolled at college to study Sociology, completing an MA in Public and Social Administration at Brunel University before becoming a tutor and course supervisor. Settling in Hertfordshire, Linda served as Magistrate from 1973 and was appointed deputy Lord Lieutenant to the county. In 1993, she was the first Black woman to be asked to join the Police Complaints Authority (later replaced by the Independent Police Complaints Commission).

I am honoured to have been selected to contribute a painting for the Windrush Generation project. I wanted the colours [of the painting] to resemble those of Jamaican beaches … And add the national flower of Jamaica, Lignum Vitae, and books representing her academic achievements. The image I worked from was the first image Ms Linda handed to me … taken on her first day at the Police Complaints Authority, where she was the first Black woman appointed to the post, so it marks an important day for her and in history.
