Princess Elizabeth (b.1926) with lilies, 1929
1929RCIN 2999926
Here the Duke of York (later King George VI) photographs his young daughter Princess Elizabeth against a backdrop of Madonna lilies. The affectionate photograph was taken at St Paul’s Walden Bury, the Hertfordshire home of the Princess's maternal grandparents, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore. The portrait is one of three photographs which were exhibited by the future King in the 1930 Kodak exhibition of work by royal photographers. This exhibition of over 60 photographs commenced a world tour on 23 May 1930 with proceeds donated to King Edward's Hospital Fund for London and the Voluntary Hospitals.
