Sydney Prior Hall was a British portrait painter and illustrator and became one of the leading artists for the illustrated newspaper The Graphic. For the Prince's tour, Hall was employed as the 'Special Artist to accompany the Prince of Wales' and was paid £600 for his seven and a half months' service. His watercolours and drawings were exhibited at the South Kensington Museum alongside the Prince's gifts from India.
