Curator talk - July Masterpiece of the Month
- This event is in the past
- 12pm and 3pm
- Included in standard admission ticket
- Adults
In June we asked our newsletter subscribers and social media followers to vote for their favourite painting in the exhibition, out of a selection of three focusing on the fashion and style of the women portrayed.
The overall winner has now been selected and Isabella Manning, exhibition co-curator will be giving a 20 minute talk about Jan Steen's A Woman at Her Toilet.
Have you ever noticed the artist’s signature on the column? The indent of the woman’s garters below her knees? Or the skull intertwined with ivy in the foreground? And what do all of these things mean? Take a closer look at these details and consider what makes the painting a masterpiece with Isabella.
Help choose next month's winning painting
Vote for your favourite animal-themed painting from the exhibition which will be the focus of August's talk, you can also look out for our poll in July on Twitter and Instagram.
Warden Short Talks
Short talks from the warden team also take place at 12pm and 3pm each day in the Gallery. The topics vary each day, including insights and details about a particular painting, or looking more widely at an artist.
