Design a carriage
The Royal Mews is home to a unique collection of carriages.
This is the Scottish State Coach. It is one of the oldest coaches in the Royal Mews. It was built in around 1830 for Prince Adolphus, brother of George IV, but the decoration dates from much later. Can you see the coat of arms on the door? This is the coat of arms of Scotland. On top of the carriage is a crown – a model of the Crown of Scotland.
This carriage was created to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Can you see the crown on top of the carriage? It is a model of the Imperial State Crown. The monarch wears this crown at the State Opening of Parliament and they sometimes travels there in this coach.
