Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born at the home of her maternal grandparents, No. 17 Bruton Street, London, on 21 April 1926 and was christened a month later in the private chapel at Buckingham Palace by the Archbishop of York, Cosmo Gordon Lang. She wore the satin and Honiton lace christening robe made in 1841 for Queen Victoria’s eldest child and used thereafter for all royal christenings.
