This photograph is meant to represent a ‘typical’ street in the city centre. There are some shops at ground level, and the floors above are residential. The windows are all screened to prevent excessive sunshine and dust entering the buildings, but the narrow patterns in the screens allow light to filter inside. Acquired by the Prince of Wales, 1862
