Syria and Lebanon

View in the court of the Great Mosque [Damascus, Syria]©

The final part of the Prince’s overland travels included Syria and Lebanon. The royal party visited a number of castles and forts occupied by the European Crusaders in the twelfth century, before heading east towards Damascus. After a few days sightseeing, the party travelled on to the Roman ruins at Baalbek in Lebanon.

After Baalbek, the Prince continued to Beirut where the Royal Yacht Osborne was waiting. They explored the Lebanon coastline on the yacht, visiting Tyre and Tripoli, before finally departing on 13 May, steaming towards the island of Rhodes in the Mediterranean.
