Section of the papyrus belonging to Nesmin, with the fifth hour of the Amduat

c.300-275 BC

RCIN 1145262

In the fifth hour, Re’s solar barque is towed by deities shown on either side of the mound with the head of Isis. The goddess Isis, wife and sister of Osiris, offers protection to Re but also her powers of healing and renewal. In the centre of the upper register is the burial mound of Osiris, while at the centre of the lower register is the ‘cavern of Sokar’, both alluding to the imminent renewal about to take place.
