Following in the Prince's footsteps
In his BBC Radio 4 series, In a Prince's Footsteps, John McCarthy revisits many of the sites visited by the Prince of Wales in his Middle Eastern tour and considers how these locations have changed in the intervening 150 years. He looks at the physical, political and social landscape today, and gathers expert opinion on how these locations have evolved during that time.
Here we compare some of the photography taken by Francis Bedford in 1862 with images of the same views taken by John McCarthy’s team in 2013 while they were researching and recording the radio series.
