CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)

Venice: San Geremia and the entrance to the Cannaregio

1734

RCIN 907475

The composition is essentially the same as that of the third painting in the Grand Canal sequence, though the drawing is not a study for the painting but dates from several years later. The most substantial difference is Palazzo Emo, second from the right, which is seen here after it was rebuilt around 1730.

Canaletto inscribed the reverse of the sheet with the date 16 July 1734.
