PAUL SANDBY (1731-1809)
The Henry VIII Gateway with a view of St George's Chapel
c. 1775RCIN 914548
Sandby often drew the same architectural features from several different angles. Here he has shown the Henry VIII Gateway from the outside, looking in towards the Chapel. He has captured the comings and goings that took place at the Castle’s main entrance, including well-dressed visitors, soldiers chatting, a knife-grinder and a water-carrier's cart.
