ANTONIO VERRIO (C. 1639-1707)
Charles II (1630-1685)
1684RCIN 407412
This fragment of fresco is a remarkable survival from the magnificent, illusionistic decoration of St George's Hall at Windsor Castle, the venue for the installation ceremonies and feast days of the Order of the Garter. It originally formed part of the central oval of the painted ceiling that depicted the apotheosis of Charles II as the sovereign of the Order, wearing his Garter robes and resting upon a rainbow.
