c.1662RCIN 602713
Following Charles II's accession in 1660, attention turned to finding him a bride. The Portuguese Infanta Catherine of Braganza was chosen. A painted portrait was sent to Charles II during the negotiations prior to their marriage in 1662. It was subsequently used as a model for a number of prints, including this engraving by William Faithorne, who held the position of the king's ‘Graver in Copper’.
