Charles II's cousin, Prince Rupert, introduced the printmaking technique of mezzotint to England, demonstrating it at the Royal Society in 1661. John Evelyn discusses the technique in this treatise on printmaking, which includes the first mezzotint to be published in England, Prince Rupert's so-called ‘Little Executioner’.
