CHARLES ALBERT WILSON (1864-1958)

Balmoral Tableaux-Vivants: 'The Sleeping Beauty'

8 Jun 1893

RCIN 2980040

Between 1853 and 1891, the George Washington Wilson Company won 27 medals for their photography. This list is proudly printed on the reverse of many of their cabinet cards, as seen here. The earliest medal to be awarded to Wilson was in December 1853 at the Mechanics’ Institute photographic exhibition in Aberdeen. During the 1862 International Exhibition in London, Wilson was the only Scottish photographer to receive an award for their work. The geographical spread of these medals shows how widely and successfully the Wilson brand had been distributed by the close of the nineteenth century.
