Described in the Aberdeen Press & Journal as ‘one of the best and most accurate of guide books’, the Black’s Guides were portable, entertaining and informative. First published in 1839, the books featured itineraries that listed points of interest to the tourist. Wilson photographed the places mentioned in these guidebooks in the knowledge that there would be a ready market of tourists seeking photographic souvenirs.
