Loans to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery
To complement the exhibition In Fine Style: The Art of Tudor and Stuart Fashion, the Portrait Gallery showed two impressive full-length portraits from the Royal Collection. This high-profile loan saw the paintings Charles I by Daniel Mytens and Portrait of an Unknown Woman by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger on display in the exhibition Reformation to Revolution.
The Scottish National Portrait Gallery uses portraiture from the sixteenth century to contemporary practice to plot, in an engaging and inspiring way, the history of Scottish achievement and life. Key figures who have shaped Scotland’s history and reputation are represented: royals and rebels, poets and philosophers, heroes and villains.
The collection features outstanding paintings, sculptures, drawings, watercolours, miniatures, photographs and prints.
