Mary II was an enthusiast of both gardening and blue and white porcelain. This pair of tulip vases (the second of the paid is displayed opposite) were created at the Delft factory run by Adriaen Kocks and would have been used during the summer months to display cut flowers, including the colourful new types of tulips being developed in the Low Countries.
