SÈVRES PORCELAIN FACTORY
Pot-pourri vase and cover (pot-pourri à vaisseau or pot-pourri en navire)
RCIN 2360
This pot-pourri was almost certainly originally owned by Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of the French king Louis XV. Its name reflects the inspiration for the shape, a boat’s hull. This scene has not yet been attributed to any known works by Teniers, or other Dutch artists of the same period.
First recorded in the Royal Collection at Carlton House in 1826.
