    Born in Utrecht, Honthorst worked in Rome and briefly visited England, before returning to his native land where he built a reputation as the most Italianate of Dutch portrait painters. The Queen of Bohemia, living in exile in The Hague, was one of his many royal patrons. Painted for the Queen of Bohemia; acquired by HM The Queen in 1958
