ATTRIBUTED TO BARTHOLOMEW ROQUE (FL. 1738)

Prospect of Hampton Court from the Garden side

dated 1738

RCIN 702881

This etching is based on a drawing made by Jacques Rigaud, who can be seen with an assistant at work under the trees in the centre. Rigaud’s visit to England from 1731 to 1734 had a profound influence over country house and garden printmaking. His elegant style was emulated by other artists such as Anthony Highmore, two of whose prints of Hampton Court can also be seen here.
