The Royal Palace of Kensington
c.1720-1730RCIN 702920
This print shows the gardens developed on the south side of Kensington Palace by William III and Mary II between 1690 – 6, with a broad central axis flanked by balanced parterres. The intricate scrollwork patterns have been convincingly attributed to the design of Daniel Marot, and although Queen Anne made significant changes to the garden during her reign, the framework of the garden planted during William III’s reign survived intact until the early Georgian period.
