dated 1845Watercolour and bodycolour over pencil | 27.3 x 20.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 913348
A watercolour of a full-length standing figure, facing front, with his fingers on a table, in an elaborate interior, wearing a costume of the reign of George II.
The Queen described herself as ‘so proud’ of the Prince in his costume for the Fancy Ball. The outfit, which had been made by Messrs Roth and Freeman, won widespread approval: the Illustrated London News praised the costume’s ‘gorgeous splendour ... regulated with historical accuracy and refined taste’.
