Victoria Cross : prototype.

Bronze | 4.1 x 3.6 cm (diameter of coin/medal (not circular) ) | RCIN 440553

This was probably the prototype of the Victoria Cross submitted to Queen Victoria on 4 February 1856 for her comments. The medal was die-struck in copper. The design for the hanging ‘V’, the bar and the reverse of the medal, had not yet been developed.
