Families

Family Pavilion

For the first time this Summer, families can visit the new Family Pavilion, situated on the West Terrace and overlooking the Buckingham Palace Garden.

Inside they will find activities and games for all ages, based on the theme of the special exhibition, Royal Childhood.

Young visitors can dress up on the Pavilion’s stage inspired by the tradition of royal pantomimes; ride a traditional rocking horse; and write a personal message to The Queen on a retro chalkboard.

Under-fives can piece together a giant wall puzzle to recreate the kitchen from 'Y Bwthyn Bach' or 'The Little House', which was given to Princess Elizabeth by the people of Wales on her sixth birthday.

The Family Pavilion is open throughout July and August, and the first week of September. It is open on the weekends throughout the remainder of September.

Family Multimedia Guide

A new multimedia guide targeted at families with children under twelve, is free with your ticket to Buckingham Palace.

The multimedia guide takes visitors on a tour of the State Rooms explaining how they are used, and highlighting some of the magnificent works of art from the Royal Collection that can be seen along the route.

Beginning with a welcome from HRH The Prince of Wales, two young presenters, David and Natalie, will guide you through the Palace with a little extra help from Rex the Corgi who pops up to explain things to younger family members.

The guide includes interviews with Royal Collection Trust curators, and Royal Household staff, to help explain the working royal palace.

Families will learn about The Queen's role as Head of State, while games will keep little ones occupied as they learn fun facts about the palace.

The income from your ticket contributes directly to The Royal Collection Trust, a registered charity. The aims of The Royal Collection Trust are the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational activities.
