While staying at Balmoral, Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 3 September 1860, the Queen walked over Craig Gowan with two of her daughters. Queen Victoria records the day in her journal, describing how she sketched the "beautiful" landscape during their walk.
