As a surprise present to Albert for their seventh wedding anniversary in 1847, Queen Victoria asked Winterhalter to paint her portrait in her wedding clothes. This is a miniature copy of Winterhalter’s portrait. It shows her wearing a wreath of orange blossom, the diamond and sapphire brooch given to her by Albert on her wedding day, and the collar of the Order of the Garter.
