GIOVANNI BAGLIONE (1566-1643)
Le vite de’ pittori, scultori et architetti
1642RCIN 1150674
Baglione was one of Rome’s leading painters around 1600 (see no. 96), and his compendium of the lives of over 200 modern artists shows that he was also a generous critic. Though his own style was very different from that of Caravaggio (whose biography begins on the opening shown here), he wrote appreciatively of his former rival’s talents.
