GIOVANNI PIETRO BELLORI (1613-96)
Le vite de pittori, scultori, et architetti moderni
1672RCIN 1150666
Bellori’s collection of biographies of twelve leading artists stressed the cultivation of an ‘idea’ of perfect beauty. The artist should select the most perfect elements of his models (either natural or artistic) and thus steer a course between personal fantasy and the realism of Caravaggio. Here the volume is open at the start of the biography of Domenichino.
