Stamped on the volume is a device depicting Pegasus on Mount Helicon approached by Apollo in his chariot, with the motto ‘straight and not obliquely’ in Greek. This was the impresa of Giovanni Battista Grimaldi, a member of the household of Pope Paul III (reigned 1534-49), and the book must therefore have been part of Grimaldi’s library.
