OVID (43 BC-17 AD)

Ovid's Metamorphosis in Italian

1584

RCIN 1000318

Ovid’s Metamorphoses has remained the most popular work of mythology since it was written two thousand years ago. The illustrated editions that were published from 1497 onwards established a standard repertoire of compositions for the depiction of many myths. The engravings to this edition were produced by Giacomo Franco (1550-1620), son of Battista Franco (no. 84).
