ATTRIBUTED TO GIROLAMO SAVOLDO (C. 1480-1548)

The head of a man

c. 1520-30

RCIN 990088

No completely convincing attribution has been proposed for this impressive (though damaged) head study. The old inscription shows that an early collector judged it to be Florentine, but blue paper is more commonly found in northern Italy. It has been attributed to Savoldo, most of whose few known drawings are of this type, black chalk heads on blue paper.
