GIOVANNI ANTONIO PORDENONE (1483/4-1539)

The Annunciation

c.1537

RCIN 906658

Pordenone’s large altarpiece of the Annunciation, still in the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli on the Venetian island of Murano, was his last major work. The dedication of the church explains the presence – in addition to the annunciatory Gabriel – of the archangel Michael at centre left, and the guardian angel Raphael at centre, his arm around the child Tobias.
