c.1544

RCIN 67399

This pair of spaudlers (which protect the upper arms) and vambraces (which protect the forearms) are a second set for the field armour of Henry VIII now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. They were made in northern Italy, and modified in the Royal Workshops in Greenwich. Henry VIII’s field armour was recorded in the Royal Armouries in Greenwich in 1555, and transferred from the Tower of London to Windsor Castle in 1688.
