The seated male nude is probably the god Apollo, identified by the hanging bow and quiver which attest to his role as the patron of archery. Uncertainty over his identity arises from his playing of the pan-pipes rather than the lyre. However, the presence of the god Pan, creator of the pipes, at bottom right could account for this change of instrument.
