Cased pair of double-barrelled flintlock pistols and equipment.

A pair of over-and-under flintlock pistols, with rifled barrels inlaid with gold stars, ferns, palmettes and gold bands; inlaid at the breech with the Royal coat of arms. The ebony stock inlaid with rose gold angels, a centurion's head, an escutcheon and foliage with a gold butt cap cast with a mask. With ramrods. The pistols were presented to George IV by Louis XVIII in December 1814. They are the work of Nicolas Boutet, Director of the factory established at Versailles in 1792 to produce arms for the Revolutionary army and later, luxury arms for presentation. The pistols were described in the Carlton House inventory as 'very handsome'.
